Getting started
How do I import a pattern?
- Tap Import (the page with a plus) on the Making screen.
- Pick a source:
- Files: PDFs from iCloud Drive, your downloads, or a cloud provider that appears in Files.
- Photos: a picture of a printed pattern.
- Scan: photograph paper pages with the camera; Rowlight straightens them for you.
- Share sheet: in Safari, Mail or Files, tap Share → Rowlight on a PDF.
- Give the project a name. Add the designer and shop link if you like; they show on the project page.
- Choose Just rows, or set up sections and repeats. You can skip this and do it later.
The free Hearth Dishcloth sample pattern (crochet and knit) is under Import → Try the sample pattern, if you'd like to try it first.
How do I set up a repeat like "Rows 3–10, repeat 3 times"?
- Open the counter sheet (swipe up on the counter).
- Tap Add rule → Repeat.
- Enter rows 3 to 10, × 3.
Rowlight shows "Repeat 2 of 3 · Row 5 of 8" and rolls over to the next repeat by itself. Repeats and reminders are part of Rowlight Pro.
How do I move the highlight band?
- Move: drag the band. Moving it never changes your count.
- Resize: long-press the band, then drag the handles.
- Link to a counter: double-tap the band. It then steps down one row with every tap.
Sync
How does sync work?
Rowlight syncs through your own private iCloud. There's no Rowlight account. Make sure that on every device:
- You're signed in to the same Apple Account.
- iCloud Drive is on.
- Rowlight is allowed to use iCloud: Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Saved to iCloud / Apps Using iCloud → Rowlight.
Settings → Sync in Rowlight shows when it last synced and how many devices it has seen.
My counts don't match between devices.
Every tap is saved as a separate event, so counts merge rather than overwrite each other. Nothing is lost if two devices count at once. If one device is behind:
- Open Rowlight on it, connected to Wi-Fi, and wait a minute.
- Check that iCloud storage isn't full (Settings → [your name] → iCloud).
- Check Low Power Mode, which can pause background sync.
Still stuck? Email us the sync status line from Settings → Sync.
Can I use Rowlight without iCloud?
Yes. Everything works on one device. Sync just stays off.
Apple Watch
How do I count from my Watch?
Install Rowlight on your Watch from the Watch app on your iPhone (My Watch → Available Apps). Open it, and the whole screen is one big +1 button.
- No-hands count: on supported models, use double tap (tap your index finger and thumb together twice) so the needles never leave your hands.
- Set a number: turn the Digital Crown to pick a new value; it commits after a pause.
- Undo: long-press for undo and history.
- Switch sections: swipe left or right.
The Watch app is part of Rowlight Pro.
The Watch app keeps going back to the clock face.
On your Watch, go to Settings → General → Return to Clock, choose Rowlight, and set it to After 1 hour.
Live Activity (lock screen and Dynamic Island)
How do I count from the lock screen?
Tap +1 once in a project and a Live Activity starts. It shows your row and repeat on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island, with a + button and undo, so you don't need to unlock your phone.
Check that Live Activities are on: Settings → Rowlight → Live Activities.
iOS ends Live Activities after about 8 hours, and Rowlight ends one after 2 idle hours. The next tap starts a fresh one, and your count is never affected. Live Activities are part of Rowlight Pro.
Live Activities show only the project name and numbers, never your pattern.
Purchases
What's free and what's Pro?
Free:
- 2 active projects (keep as many as you like on the Shelf)
- all counters
- iCloud sync
- export
Pro:
- unlimited active projects
- Apple Watch app
- Live Activity
- Apple Pencil markup
- repeats and reminders that count themselves
Pro is $14.99/year with a 7-day free trial, or $39.99 once for lifetime. Counting, sync and export are always free.
How do I restore my purchase on a new device?
Sign in with the same Apple Account, then tap Settings → Pro → Restore Purchases (also on the Pro screen). Family Sharing members get Pro automatically when the purchaser has it turned on.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Rowlight → Cancel Subscription. Pro stays active until the end of the paid period.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles all payments, so refunds come from Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, choose Request a refund, and select Rowlight. We can't issue refunds directly, and we can't see your payment details.
Backups and your data
How do I back up or move a project?
Open the project, then tap Export:
- Rowlight backup (.rowlight): saves the project details, counters, history and attached pattern files. Keep it in Files or iCloud Drive.
- Counters as text: a plain summary of your counts.
To restore, open the .rowlight file on any device with Rowlight. Backups are for your own projects. Please don't use them to share a designer's pattern.
How do I delete all my Rowlight data?
- In the app: delete each project (Project → Delete Project). Deletions sync to your other devices.
- iCloud: on iPhone or iPad, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Rowlight → Delete Data from iCloud. On a Mac, go to System Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage → Rowlight.
- Devices: delete the app from each iPhone and iPad. On Apple Watch, turn off Show App on Apple Watch in the iPhone Watch app.
Deleting iCloud data is permanent, so export first if you might want it later. There's no Rowlight account to delete, and we hold no copy of your data.
Does Rowlight collect any data?
Only anonymous usage counts, which you can turn off in Settings → Privacy. Read the Privacy Policy.
